TZFM201 - Spring 2023 Week 3: Closed Landfill

Statement of Intent

The audience for my assignment is Team 1 of the TZFM201 - Spring 2023, and my inspiration is from the French-born American advertising and documentary photographer, Elliott Erwitt who once stated:

‘To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them’.

Inspired by the quote, I will spend 6 hours on a landfill site which had been closed for over 20 years and my intention is to find items or shots which contain artistic or photographic merit, capture them using a Canon R5, a prime 50mm lens and a 24-70mm zoom lens and use Lightroom to process and publish.

My genre will be architecture and a sub-genre of documentary, and the shots will be in the form of portrait and landscape, monochrome and colour.

There will be six shots in total and they will depict structures and equipment associated with landfill and how nature and time has transformed them and hopefully find something in an ordinary place that the audience will find interesting.

By the nature of the location and time constraints, the photographs will be candid and taken from perspectives that make them stand out or interesting to me, and hopefully the target audience.
